Practicing intellectual property law for over three decades Scott has been repeatedly recognized by the World Trademark Reporter as one of the top 300 trademark attorneys in the world and is a three-time recipient of the WTR’s Best in-house Trademark Teams in the world award.
Scott, a highly accomplished and results-driven Senior Executive and General Counsel, possesses demonstrated expertise in intellectual property law, marketing, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, anti-counterfeiting, global licensing, regulatory matters, U.S. and international litigation, and brand creation, management, and protection. Most recently Scott was the General Counsel – Intellectual Property/Marketing Properties for Mars Incorporated the well- known confectionery, food, and pet care products and services company with $40 billion in annual sales producing brands such as DOVE®, EXTRA®, M&M’s®, MILKY WAY®, SNICKERS®, TWIX®, ORBIT®, PEDIGREE®, ROYAL CANIN®, SKITTLES®, BEN’S ORIGINAL™, WHISKAS® and taking care of half of the world’s pets through the Mars’ pet health services AniCura, Banfield Pet Hospitals™, BluePearl®, Linnaeus, Pet Partners™, and VCA™. Scott also simultaneously served as the interim General Counsel for Mars Edge helping the startup division in its first two years of growth in new innovative areas of business.
Prior to Mars Scott’s extensive experience has included his roles as the Assistant General Counsel at Philip Morris Companies during the 1990’s when it was one of the world largest consumer products companies with tobacco brands, Miller beers, Kraft-General Foods, Post cereals, Nabisco products, coffees and scores of leading brands around the globe. Scott was also the Vice-President and Associate General Counsel of The Colgate-Palmolive company and the Vice-President of Global Trademarks at GlaxoSmithKline Company. In addition to Scott’s wealth of experience at these leading companies, Scott was a partner at the global law firm Greenberg Traurig representing consumer product companies, pharmaceutical and entertainment clients in litigation, transactional, licensing and counseling. Scott is a graduate of Cornell University with a BS degree in Communications and a JD degree from Brooklyn Law School.
